Sarah Ophelia Colley performed under the stage name of Minnie Pearl. She was a comedian. She made appearances on the Grand Ole Opry from 1940 – 19991. She was a regular cast member on the sitcom Hee Haw that aired from 1969-1971. She was the author of five books including Christmas At Grinder's Switch (with Roy Acuff) that was published by Abingdon Press in 1985. She released five albums including her debut album Howdy! In 1960 that was named after her catch phrase. She died in March of 1996.
